240 volt air compressor wiring

Im upgrading a fuse box in my garage to brakers and addition a 220 line for an air compressor the compressor calls for a 15 amp braker the part i dont understand is it also calls for a single phase 240/60/1 . what does that destine? also when i up grade the box how many amps do i need comming in to it? I have 8 circuts running off of it at 10 and 15 amps. Is there a diff. between 220v and 240v.

240/60/1 240 volts AC (no helpful difference for YOU 240 versus 220) 60 means 60 cycle power. Standard in the US (In Europe the conventional is 50 cycle) 1 means single phase. Again standard household power. You will need a Dual Jackstaff, 220/240 volt circuit breaker. You will have two hot leads coming from the brekaer to the compressor. 1 neutral goign to the uninvolved bus inthe circuit breaker box 1 bare (copper) ground goign tothe ground bus inthe CB box. :-) Eric
  • 220 comes from a delta phase 240 from a Y configuration. you box amp rating should match or exceed the total combined amount of your breakers. air compressor wiring craftsman
